The website “agustinosconelpapa.com” is born as a sign of communion and a shared expression of the Augustinian charism ahead of the Holy Father’s visit

The Augustinian family in Spain has joined forces to launch a shared digital platform for Pope Leo’s forthcoming visit. Under the name agustinosconelpapa.com, this initiative aims to offer a common space from which to communicate, celebrate and live this ecclesial event with the identity of the sons and daughters of Saint Augustine.

The website is not just a communication project but a concrete expression of the deepest essence of the Augustinian charism: communion. Various branches of the family (orders, congregations and lay groups) come together with one voice to accompany the Holy Father on his visit to Spain.

An identity born of communion

The Augustinian family can be described by its historical richness or the diversity of its charisms, but above all it is a community of people who share the same spiritual experience. As the Rule of Saint Augustine recalls, its members live “in harmony, with one soul and one heart directed towards God”.

This unity does not mean uniformity, but the integration of diversity around one centre: seeking God in community and serving the Church. The website agustinosconelpapa.com aims to make visible precisely that communion which, beyond any structures, is a living experience.

“Ante omnia”: a shared spirituality

The axis of Augustinian life lies in the opening invitation of the Rule: “Before all else, love God and then your neighbour.” This principle shapes the whole of community life, mission and the witness of the Augustinian family.

From this perspective, the new digital platform is presented as a space where that love becomes concrete in communication, in collaboration between charisms and in joint service to the Church.

A history of unity that lives on

The initiative is part of a historical tradition marked by union. From Saint Augustine’s experience in Hippo to the Grand Union of 1256 promoted by Pope Alexander IV, the Augustinian charism has grown as a family that finds its strength in communion.

Over the centuries, this unity has taken shape in various forms of life, among them the Order of Augustinian Recollects, born in Spain in 1588, as well as in numerous women’s congregations that share the same spiritual root and ecclesial mission, such as the Augustinian Sisters of Amparo, founded in 1859, and the Augustinian Missionary Sisters, founded in 1890.

Today that history continues in new forms of collaboration. The Spanish Augustinian Federation (FAE), which has promoted joint initiatives for decades, is one of the most visible signs of this communion, now also expressed in the digital sphere.

A Pope, a sign of unity

The election of Pope Leo on May 8, 2025 was an especially significant moment for the Augustinian family. In his first words, the Holy Father described himself as a “son of Saint Augustine”, underlining a spiritual identity that speaks to this whole religious family.

The creation of agustinosconelpapa.com responds to that call: to remember our own identity, strengthen communion and live our shared vocation more intensely.

A website for living the mission together

The website agustinosconelpapa.com is designed as a space for encounter, memory and mission. It will cover the latest news of the papal visit, as well as content that reflects the richness and unity of the Augustinian family in Spain.

Beyond information, the platform wants to be a visible sign that communion is not just an ideal but a reality that is built and communicated.

Because, in the end, the Augustinian family recognizes itself in one identity: one soul and one heart directed towards God.
